Steps For Safely Popping Pimples
Posted by admin in popping pimples on August 18, 2009
- Anyone who has a big event to attend the next hour and worries about his/her look a lot
- If you are not in a hurry, it’s ALWAYS better NOT to pop them
- Only if the pimples are whiteheads and only if the pimples are about to pop
- Take a warm shower/bath to relax and soften your skin and open the pores
- Pat your skin using a clean towel
- Wash your hands with soap (this will not kill all the bacteria off)
- Carefully wash your skin with oil-free and non-comedogenic facial cleanser
- Use a guaze pad or cotton ball to dry the pimple, removing the remaining dirt
- Sterilize a needle through a flame (use a lighter)
- Gently touch the pimple with the needle to make the pus/liquid to come out
- Use another clean guaze pad or cotton ball to absorb the liquid until no more pus or blood comes out
- If the pimple does not pop, stop immediately
- Never pop significantly redden, swelled pimples
- Never pop a cystic pimple
- Only pop pimples that are ready to pop
- An “oil-free” and “non-comedogenic” facial cleanser – Neutrogena Oil Free Deep Clean Cream Cleanser or Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser
- Sterile guaze pads (I prefer this over cotton balls, since guaze pads are sterilized)
Blackhead Removal
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on August 25, 2009
Are you envy of people who have nice skins? Are there just some people in this world that never have blackheads, whiteheads and pimples no matter what they eat, drink or do? Yes, but very rarely. Chances are they take very good care of their skin. Even if you have any of the above, it’s not like you can’t have a pretty face like them. You just have to know how to properly deal with them and prevent further pimple outbreaks. In this article, we will focus on blackheads. For pimples/whiteheads, refer to popping pimples.
So what are blackheads? Sebaceous glands in your skin produces oil. When these glands get a bit overactive, excessive oil are produced. Skin pores will be clogged. And plugs can form in these pores. When the plugs are exposed to air, they oxidize and become hard. These are now called blackheads. Blackheads can often grow into pimples if not treated properly.
Before we get into how to remove blackheads, it is extremely important to know how not to irritate them and make
them worse. They can grow into pimples, form red nodules and leave scars on your face. I strongly recommend not to squeeze the blackheads with your unwashed fingers. I squeezed my blackheads in my past. I
used my fingers and applied quite a lot of pressure to force the blackheads out. What happened was that the blackheads were removed at that moment, but my face became quite redden. It looked quite bad on my face since some parts of my face are red, some are not. Furthermore, the blackheads I squeezed grew back after a while.
Even if you washed your hands completely, I do not recommend squeezing with your hands. If you applied too much pressure during the squeezing, the squeezed area would become irritated. More importantly, if you open a
wound the the blackhead spot, bacteria can infect that area. Dark nodules can form. The worst thing that can happen is getting acne scarring.
So you want to be clear of blackheads in the next hour. In the following, I will talk about how to use blackhead removal strips:
- Pat your skin using a clean towel with warm water (You can take a warm shower as an alternative). This will soften your skin and open up the pores.
- Use an oil-free cleanser to completely clean your skin (See below for recommended cleansers). Do not use any random soaps. They can irritate your skin.
- Wet a blackhead removal strip.
- Stick it on the infected area for around 10 minutes.
- Rip the strip off your skin
Recommended Blackhead Removal Supplies:
- Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub is an effective cleanser that deep cleans to aid battle and prevent blackheads.
- Pond’s Clear Solutions Clear Pore Strips unclog pores and smoothes skin. It is also very effective for clearing blackheads on/around the nose. See and feel the immediate effect.
Treating Pimples with Benzoyl Peroxide

What is Benzoyl Peroxide?
It is a common practice to use benzoyl peroxide to deal with pimple problems. You’ve probably seen this ingredient in various face washes at your local super store. So what exactly is benzoyl peroxide and how does it help with pimples?
First, let’s get into what benzoyl peroxide is. To keep in simple terms, when benzoyl peroxide comes in contact with the skin, it breaks down. This reaction produces non-toxic substances such as benzoic acid and oxygen. The bacteria that is responsible for producing acne is called Propionibacteria acnes. They cannot live in an oxygen-rich environment. This means when benzoyl peroxide introduces oxygen into the pore when it comes in contact with the skin, Propionibacteria acnes are killed. The number of breakouts on the skin is therefore reduced due to a reduced number of Propionibacteria acnes.
Benzoyl peroxide can also help rid the follicle of excess dead skin. This helps to lessen the chance of blockage in the pore; therefore, benzoyl peroxide has the ability to help prevent breakouts.
How to Use Benzoyl Peroxide to Treat Pimples
When used properly, benzoyl peroxide can be an effective agent in treating pimples. Here is a step by step guide.
- Start with a solution with 2.5% strength. Try Jan Marini Benzoyl Peroxide Facial Wash. This is because higher percentages may irritate the skin. Once your skin adapts more to benzoyl peroxide, you can then move on to higher percentages.
- Apply an amount approximately the size of a quarter of benzoyl peroxide over cleansed and dried skin. Benzoyl peroxide must be applied to all affected areas of the skin, because as mentioned above, it works to stop pimples before they start.
- Leave it on for a while. You may begin to feel a minty sensation on the affected area. This is completely normal. Gently rinse the affected area with water after the facial wash has dried and dry the affect area with a clean towel.
- Repeat steps 1 to 4 twice daily. (Note: always check the instruction on the back of the solution battle to see the recommended number of usage per day)
- If you feel irritation on your skin, please see a dermatologist.
Some Common Questions from Readers:
1.) Are there any side affects when using benzoyl peroxide to treat pimples?
Yes, dryness and flaking is one of the common side effects. However, these effects are generally mild. You can use an oil-free moisturizing lotion to help condition your skin.
2.) I am experiencing redness and there is a burning sensation, what should I do?
This is a sign of over usage of benzoyl peroxide. Discontinue from using the lotion immediately and contact a dermatologist. Also take note that signs of itching, swelling and/or rash are all signs of over usage.
3.) I accidentally got some lotion on my shirt and there is a white spot there that I cannot get rid of why?
Benzoyl peroxide is known to bleach hair, clothing, towels and fabrics. Take care during and after application to avoid contact with these materials. It is a good idea to wear an old shirt if benzoyl peroxide is being applied.
Recommended Benzoyl Peroxide Solution:
Jan Marini Benzoyl Peroxide Facial Wash is an effective anti-bacterial cleanser for acne and acne prone skin. It thoroughly removes debris and deep-cleans the skin without stripping all the oil, leaving the skin feeling clean, smooth and soft.
White Pimples
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on August 17, 2009
What exactly are those annoying white pimples that grow on the skin? Is it an infection or merely just a “natural” thing that everyone gets? This page is dedicated to providing for you with more answers to what exactly are those white pimples that grow on your skin and how you can get rid of them.
The term “White Pimples” is too general. The truth is there can be different types of white bump like structures that grow on the skin and many people often mistaken them to be simply “White Pimples”. So what is really going on? There are 4 common possibilities:
- Pimple with white “pus” – These are pimples with a white substance called pus that can be seen in the middle of the pimple. The pus is accumulated dirt, oil and bacteria which could infect your skin.
- White pimple like bumps called Milia
- Hard Big White Pimple Bumps called Sebaceous Cyst – This is a closed sac below the surface of the skin that is filled with a fatty white, semi-solid material called sebum. Sebum is produced by sebaceous glands.
- White Pimples that grow on the penis are called Hirsuties papillaris genitalis
What are those White Pimples with “pus”?
These white pimples are plugged pores that occur on the face, neck, chest, back and sometimes shoulders. White pimples with pus are caused by sebum that is produced by oil glands underneath the skin. Oil or sebum that is produced in the glands flows through follicles to the surface of the skin. When the outer layers of skin shed, the dead skin cells left behind may become ‘glued’ together by the sebum. This causes a blockage in the pore. The oil glands produce more sebum which builds up behind the blockage. As a result, this sebum can collect bacteria and become infected. The term white “pus” is the white, glue like substance that is seen at the tip of the pimple. This “pus’ is actually trapped sebum from under the skin.
How to treat White Pimples with “pus” ?
Begin by following a regular skin cleansing schedule to clean your pores from particles and dirt. The cleaner your pores, the fewer problems will occur.
- If you have an existing skin condition, here are some advice for you:
- Popping the pimple yourself is not advised as this could lead to infection and scarring.
- Avoid touching your face often. Increased friction on the pimple will cause it to close up further.
- Purchase oil-free and antibacterial cleansers made especially to control pimple outbreaks. Be careful not to over scrub. Cleanse deeply and moderately.
- If you do not like to use pimple cleansers, try to wash only with water and mild soap.
- Do not to switch cleansing products too often. This may cause allergies and other skin problems.
- Popping pimples can be a simple problem to the solution, if none of the above points improve your skin condition and you must remove the pimple by popping it, then be sure to do so under extremely sanitary conditions. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after extraction.
- An injection is available from dermatologists called kenalog. This is a steroid that helps to clear the breakout within 20 hours. This may be the only solution in serve cases and uncontrollable situations.
- It may be best to consult a doctor for treatment if your breakouts occur often.
Sebaceous Cyct – White Pimples that appear as big white bumps
Sebaceous Cyct Causes
Blocked sebaceous glands, swollen hair follicles and an excess of testosterone production can cause Sebaceous Cyct. A protein called keratin is often secreted. These cysts are usually found on the face, neck, and trunk. They are usually slow-growing and painless lumps that grow beneath the skin.
How to Treat Sebaceous Cyct
Sebaceous Cyst most often will disappear on their own. Occasionally, they may become inflamed and tender. In some cases, sebaceous cysts may grow large and if left untreated, a Sebaceous Cyct will continue to grow and may become painful and infected. In this case, they will need to be removed surgically. Steroid medications or antibiotics can be used to treat small inflamed cysts.
An effective method of treatment involves placing a heating pad on the cyst for about 15 minutes, 2 times daily, for about 10 days (these numbers will vary depending on size and location of the cyst). The temperature of the heating pad should be reasonable; this means when placed over the cyct, the pad should not cause any pain or burning sensation. Also the heating pad must be cleaned by rubbing alcohol before placing over the cyst. Improper use of the heat pad can cause infection.
The heating pad works by melting the wax-like material inside of the cyst. The melted materials can be reabsorbed and processed by the body. Popping the pimple-like cyst can lead to infection of the surrounding tissue. The neck is a particularly dangerous region, because the cyst may be close to glands and blood vessels.
White Pimples on the Penis – Hirsuties papillaris genitalis
Hirsuties papillaris genitalis (aka Pearly Penile Papules - WARNING: do not click if you don’t want to see pictures of the male genital) are small white coloured skin domes that form around the penis gland. They appear in rows around the rim of the penis head and may also appear on either side of the frenulum.
These white pimples like structures are quite common. They are completely harmless and not contagious. They can sometimes be mistaken for a sexually transmitted disease, such as genital warts. However, they are not a STD therefore they are not caused by sexual contact nor is there a risk of passing it to your sexual partner.
Hirsuties papillaris genitalis should not itch or cause any irritation.
Cause of Hirsuties papillaris genitalis
The cause of hirsuties papillaris genitalis are in no way related to sexual activity or bad hygiene. They commonly appear in men ages between 20 and 40. The actual cause is unknown.
Treating Hirsuties papillaris genitalis
Hirsuties Papillaris Genitalis appear as small white bumps when it first starts and may take up to 4 years for them to grow to full size. Hirsuties Papillaris Genitalis will remain throughout your life. They may diminish in size but will never completely disappear.
Most dermatologists advise that no treatment is required. There is no known cream or topical application that is effective in removing hirsuties papillaris genitalis.
However if you would like to remove them, the only known treatment is the CO2 laser treatment. This method has been documented as effective. Product : NoMorePapules.com
What are those White Pimples called Milia??
While pimple like bumps called Milia, also known as milk spots or oil seeds, are benign, keratin-filled cysts that can grow just under the epidermis ,on the top of the mouth, or around the eyes and nose. They are commonly found on newborn babies but can also affect anyone of any age. Milia that grow on the genitalia are often mistaken by those infected as warts or other STDs.
What causes Milia?
Milia often occur in infant stages that last for a few days. They can be inherited from parents. Excessive exposure to the sun may also cause Milia.
Some people experience Fluoride irritation from toothpaste and may cause Milia to grow around the mouth.
How to treat Milia
There are 2 effective ways to treat Milia:
- limit sun exposure
- avoid cleaning affected area with harsh chemicals
Milia around the eyes: use eye creams with little ingredients to avoid irritation. Avoid rubbing the eyes so as not to damage the skin.
Milia around the mouth: Try to keep the foam from staying around your mouth for long periods of time. This limits fluoride irritation to the skin.
Milia due to sun exposure: Use sunscreen with the least amount of ingredients. and look for sunscreens that offer physical sun blockage and contain active ingredients such as titanium oxide or zinc oxide.
For serious cases of Milia, please contact a dermatologist or aesthetician to extract them.
Is Popping Pimples Effective?
Posted by admin in popping pimples on August 12, 2009
People pop their pimples because they feel the pimples make them look ugly. They believe that the pimples will go away faster. However, this is not true. Dermatologists have found that most people who have severe, big pimples frequently pop their pimples. Popping pimples do not make pimples go away faster; in fact, it can make the pimples become bigger. Moreover, popping pimples can lead to permanent scarring and dark spots.
Your hands, fingers and nails are filled with bacteria. These bacteria won’t be completely killed by normal soap and water. Popping pimples will make a hole in your skin, opening a wound in the inner skin. Germs can then infect your inner skin which can lead to inflammation of the wound. Permanent scarring can result from opening a deep hole in your skin, and severe cases can lead to acne outbreak.
With that said, it will be a different case if the pimple is whitish and it may help by popping it. This is usually the final stage of the healing, and you can see pus in the pimple.
Here are the steps to correctly pop pimples:
- Thoroughly wash and clean your hands and face with water.
- Prepare a sterilized pin and clean cloth with disinfectant alcohol.
- Use the pin to gently poke the pimples and let the pus come out. (Important: Stop immediately if it does not burst. If the pimple is reddish, popping it would only make it bigger.)
- Wipe the area with the alcohol cloaked cloth.
To conclude, popping pimples is not very effective, but if the pimples are whitish and affect your appearance a lot, then it is okay to pop them. I highly recommend not to pop pimples. If you absolutely must pop them, keep the following points in mind: never pop pimples with your hands and do not pop when the pimples are reddish.
